Tokyo 2020 Qualifiers: Serbia don’t play – Italy wreck it to claim last ticket for Olympic Games!

With this clear victory, Italy earned their 12th consecutive participation in the Olympic Games and completed the line up in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from the FIVB International Qualifier. Pool C hosts of Italy litterally wrecked a half-dead Serbia (who never really played) in the key match of the FIVB International Qualifier to advance to the Volleyball Tournament of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which they did not miss since 1976: 3-0 (25:16, 25:19, 25:19).
So, Italy took revenge on Serbia for having the major role in the elimination from the last year’s FIVB World Championship (recall that Serbia won by a 3-0 in the Top 6). Beautiful crowd at a sold-out PalaFlorio in Bari (nearly 5,500 spectators), and Serbia did not make a single block in the first set, while one of its main player Aleksandar Atanasijević finished the match with only 2 points, and he was replaced in the second set with Luburic (even if was returned in the third).
Ivan Zaytsev top-scored for the winners with 13 points, and he was the most deserving for all aces of his team (3). Marko Ivović scored 7 points for Serbia.
Italy joined Argentina, Poland, USA, Russia and Brazil who have qualified earlier today. Japan secured an automatic ticket as Olympic hosts.

In the same Pool, before the decisive match between Italy and Serbia (in which, however, as I said, Serbia remained in the locker room), Australia walked over a more than modest Cameroon, which concludes its competition without having even won one set.
